Description : Read Now Mining Massive Data Sets For Security by Françoise Fogelman-Soulié and you can download with pub, pdf, txt, doc, and more file format with free account. the real power for security applications will come from the synergy of academic and commercial research focusing on the specific issue of security. special constraints apply to this domain, which are not always taken into consideration by academic research, but are critical for successful security applications: large volumes: techniques must be able to handle huge amounts of data and perform 'on-line' computation; scalability: algorithms must have processing times that scale well with ever growing volumes; automation: the analysis process must be automated so that information extraction can 'run on its own'; ease of use: everyday citizens should be able to extract and assess the necessary information; and robustness: systems must be able to cope with data of poor quality (missing or erroneous data). the nato advanced study institute (asi) on mining massive data sets for security, held in italy, september 2007, brought together around ninety participants to discuss these issues. this publication includes the most important contributions, but can of course not entirely reflect the lively interactions which allowed the participants to exchange their views and share their experience. the bridge between academic methods and industrial constraints is systematically discussed throughout. this volume will thus serve as a reference book for anyone interested in understanding the techniques for handling very large data sets and how to apply them in conjunction for solving security issues.

Description : Read Now Advances In Machine Learning And Data Mining For Astronomy by Michael J. Way and you can download with pub, pdf, txt, doc, and more file format with free account. advances in machine learning and data mining for astronomy documents numerous successful collaborations among computer scientists, statisticians, and astronomers who illustrate the application of state-of-the-art machine learning and data mining techniques in astronomy. due to the massive amount and complexity of data in most scientific disciplines, the material discussed in this text transcends traditional boundaries between various areas in the sciences and computer science. the book’s introductory part provides context to issues in the astronomical sciences that are also important to health, social, and physical sciences, particularly probabilistic and statistical aspects of classification and cluster analysis. the next part describes a number of astrophysics case studies that leverage a range of machine learning and data mining technologies. in the last part, developers of algorithms and practitioners of machine learning and data mining show how these tools and techniques are used in astronomical applications. with contributions from leading astronomers and computer scientists, this book is a practical guide to many of the most important developments in machine learning, data mining, and statistics. it explores how these advances can solve current and future problems in astronomy and looks at how they could lead to the creation of entirely new algorithms within the data mining community.

Description : Read Now Visual And Spatial Analysis by Boris Kovalerchuk and you can download with pub, pdf, txt, doc, and more file format with free account. advanced visual analysis and problem solving has been conducted successfully for millennia. the pythagorean theorem was proven using visual means more than 2000 years ago. in the 19th century, john snow stopped a cholera epidemic in london by proposing that a specific water pump be shut down. he discovered that pump by visually correlating data on a city map. the goal of this book is to present the current trends in visual and spatial analysis for data mining, reasoning, problem solving and decision-making. this is the first book to focus on visual decision making and problem solving in general with specific applications in the geospatial domain - combining theory with real-world practice. the book is unique in its integration of modern symbolic and visual approaches to decision making and problem solving. as such, it ties together much of the monograph and textbook literature in these emerging areas. this book contains 21 chapters that have been grouped into five parts: (1) visual problem solving and decision making, (2) visual and heterogeneous reasoning, (3) visual correlation, (4) visual and spatial data mining, and (5) visual and spatial problem solving in geospatial domains. each chapter ends with a summary and exercises. the book is intended for professionals and graduate students in computer science, applied mathematics, imaging science and geospatial information systems (gis). in addition to being a state-of-the-art research compilation, this book can be used a text for advanced courses on the subjects such as modeling, computer graphics, visualization, image processing, data mining, gis, and algorithm analysis.

Description : Read Now Video Mining by Azriel Rosenfeld and you can download with pub, pdf, txt, doc, and more file format with free account. traditionally, scientific fields have defined boundaries, and scientists work on research problems within those boundaries. however, from time to time those boundaries get shifted or blurred to evolve new fields. for instance, the original goal of computer vision was to understand a single image of a scene, by identifying objects, their structure, and spatial arrangements. this has been referred to as image understanding. recently, computer vision has gradually been making the transition away from understanding single images to analyzing image sequences, or video video understanding deals with understanding of video understanding. sequences, e.g., recognition of gestures, activities, facial expressions, etc. the main shift in the classic paradigm has been from the recognition of static objects in the scene to motion-based recognition of actions and events. video understanding has overlapping research problems with other fields, therefore blurring the fixed boundaries. computer graphics, image processing, and video databases have obvi ous overlap with computer vision. the main goal of computer graphics is to generate and animate realistic looking images, and videos. re searchers in computer graphics are increasingly employing techniques from computer vision to generate the synthetic imagery. a good exam pie of this is image-based rendering and modeling techniques, in which geometry, appearance, and lighting is derived from real images using computer vision techniques. here the shift is from synthesis to analy sis followed by synthesis. image processing has always overlapped with computer vision because they both inherently work directly with images.
