Description : Read Now The Jew Is Not My Enemy by Tarek Fatah and you can download with pub, pdf, txt, doc, and more file format with free account. a liberal muslim and critically acclaimed author explores the historical, political, and theological basis for centuries of muslim animosity towards jews, debunking long-held myths and tracing a history of hate and its impact today. more than nine years after 9/11 and 60 years after the creation of the state of israel, the world is no closer to solving, let alone understanding, the psychological and political divide between jews and muslims. while countless books have been written on the subject of terrorism, political islam, and jihad, barely a handful address the theological and historical basis of the jew—muslim divide. following the terrorist attacks on mumbai in november 2008, in which pakistani jihadis sought out and murdered the members of a local jewish centre, tarek fatah began an in-depth investigation of the historical basis for the crime. in this provocative new book, fatah uses extensive research to trace how literature from as early as the seventh century has fueled the hatred of jews by muslims. fatah debunks the anti-jewish writings of the hadith literature, takes apart the arab supremacist doctrines that lend fuel to the fire, and reinterprets supposed anti-jewish passages in the quran. in doing so he argues that hating jews is against the essence of the islamic spirit and suggests what needs to be done to eliminate the agonizing friction between the two communities. from the hardcover edition.

Description : Read Now Cascades Of Violence by John Braithwaite and you can download with pub, pdf, txt, doc, and more file format with free account. as in the cascading of water, violence and nonviolence can cascade down from commanding heights of power (as in waterfalls), up from powerless peripheries, and can undulate to spread horizontally (flowing from one space to another). as with containing water, conflict cannot be contained without asking crucial questions about which variables might cause it to cascade from the top-down, bottom up and from the middle-out. the book shows how violence cascades from state to state. empirical research has shown that nations with a neighbor at war are more likely to have a civil war themselves (sambanis 2001). more importantly in the analysis of this book, war cascades from hot spot to hot spot within and between states (autesserre 2010, 2014). the key to understanding cascades of hot spots is in the interaction between local and macro cleavages and alliances (kalyvas 2006). the analysis exposes the folly of asking single-level policy questions like do the benefits and costs of a regime change in iraq justify an invasion? we must also ask what other violence might cascade from an invasion of iraq? the cascades concept is widespread in the physical and biological sciences with cascades in geology, particle physics and the globalization of contagion. the past two decades has seen prominent and powerful applications of the cascades idea to the social sciences (sunstein 1997; gladwell 2000; sikkink 2011). in his discussion of ethnic violence, james rosenau (1990) stressed that the image of turbulence developed by mathematicians and physicists could provide an important basis for understanding the idea of bifurcation and related ideas of complexity, chaos, and turbulence in complex systems. he classified the bifurcated systems in contemporary world politics as the multicentric system and the statecentric system. each of these affects the others in multiple ways, at multiple levels, and in ways that make events enormously hard to predict (rosenau 1990, 2006). he replaced the idea of events with cascades to describe the event structures that 'gather momentum, stall, reverse course, and resume anew as their repercussions spread among whole systems and subsystems' (1990: 299). through a detailed analysis of case studies in south asia, that built on john braithwaite's twenty-five year project peacebuilding compared, and coding of conflicts in different parts of the globe, we expand rosenau's concept of global turbulence and images of cascades. in the cascades of violence in south asia, we demonstrate how micro-events such as localized riots, land-grabbing, pervasive militarization and attempts to assassinate political leaders are linked to large scale macro-events of global politics. we argue in order to prevent future conflicts there is a need to understand the relationships between history, structures and agency; interest, values and politics; global and local factors and alliances.

"this is a fascinating, well illustrated and thoroughly documented response to the relentless anti-christian propaganda that has been generated by muslin and marxist groups and by hollywood film makers. as karl marx declared: 'the first battlefield is the re-writing of history!' 'peter knows first hand the nature of the enemy the west is facing and exposes it brilliantly in this book on islam. he begins by documenting the close relationship between islam and slavery and then chapter by chapter reveals the terrible cost of thirteen centuries of islamic invasion, conquest and brutalisation. this is a book that every christian should read and pass along to friends; and one that every home-schooling family should require as part of their children's curriculum' -- dr. brian m. abshire. 'dr. peter hammond cuts through layers of misinformation and uncovers astonishing historical facts and details long buried by islamic revisionists. you'll find out their real agenda for tomorrow by discovering what they actually did yesterday-plus a field-tested plan of how to win muslims to christ' -- rev. bill bathman. 'for the sake of this generation, and coming ones, someone had to do what dr. peter hammond has just done; setting the record straight on the different role players in the slave trade' -- rev. fano sibisi. 'slavery, terrorism & islam, is must reading to all those who want to find out the roots of the terrorism that is threatening global security' -- rev. jeffreys kayanga." -- back cover.

Description : Read Now Correcting Jesus by Brian Griffith and you can download with pub, pdf, txt, doc, and more file format with free account. in correcting jesus, brian griffith patiently and clearly untangles the many strands of the story of christianity, and the many changes made over the centuries to the original story of jesus and his message. for any reader who's wondered, ''where did that rule come from?'' and ''was it always this way?'' brian's book is the one you've waited for. he's always passionate but direct in his thesis that the original words of jesus were meant as a basis for a society based on partnership and equity, not the one of domination and hierarchy they're used so often to justify. by the early 20th century, it was generally accepted that all creatures (and communities) were inescapably rivals in life's battle for supremacy. it was the law of life that only victors had a future. and by this logic, which led straight to world wars i and ii, jesus was simply irrelevant to reality. . . . in this context, the old imperative of christian jihad against infidels was confirmed by scientific realism. somebody had to come out on top.

Description : Read Now The Wretched Of The Earth by Frantz Fanon and you can download with pub, pdf, txt, doc, and more file format with free account. frantz fanon's seminal work on the trauma of colonization, the wretched of the earth made him the leading anti-colonialist thinker of the twentieth century. this penguin modern classics edition is translated from the french by constance farrington, with an introduction by jean-paul sartre. written at the height of the algerian war for independence from french colonial rule and first published in 1961, frantz fanon's classic text has provided inspiration for anti-colonial movements ever since, analysing the role of class, race, national culture and violence in the struggle for freedom. with power and anger, fanon makes clear the economic and psychological degradation inflicted by imperialism. it was fanon, himself a psychotherapist, who exposed the connection between colonial war and mental disease, who showed how the fight for freedom must be combined with building a national culture, and who showed the way ahead, through revolutionary violence, to socialism. many of the great calls to arms from the era of decolonization are now of purely historical interest, yet this passionate analysis of the relations between the great powers and the 'third world' is just as illuminating about the world we live in today. frantz fanon (1925-61) was a martinique-born french author essayist, psychoanalyst, and revolutionary. fanon was a supporter of the algerian struggle for independence from french rule, and became a member of the algerian national liberation front. he was perhaps the preeminent thinker of the 20th century on the issue of decolonization and the psychopathology of colonization. his works have inspired anti-colonial liberation movements for more than four decades. if you enjoyed the wretched of the earth, you might like edward said's orientalism, also available in penguin modern classics. 'in clear language, in words that can only have been written in the cool heat of rage, he showed us the internal theatre of racism'independent

"on new years' eve 1938, the writer abdulla qodiriy is taken from his home by the soviet secret police and thrown into a tashkent prison. there, to distract himself from the physical and psychological torment of beatings and mindless interrogations, he attempts to mentally reconstruct the novel he was writing at the time of his arrest - based on the tragic life of the uzbek poet-queen oyhon, married to three khans in succession, and living as abdulla now does, with the threat of execution hanging over her. as he gets to know his cellmates, abdulla discovers that the great game of oyhon's time, when english and russian spies infiltrated the courts of central asia, has echoes in the 1930s present, but as his identification with his protagonist increases and past and present overlap it seems that abdulla's inability to tell fact from fiction will be his undoing. the devils' dance - banned in uzbekistan for twenty-seven years - brings to life the extraordinary culture of 19th century turkestan, a world of lavish poetry recitals, brutal polo matches, and a cosmopolitan and culturally diverse islam rarely described in western literature."--publisher's description.

Description : Read Now All Our Relations by Tanya Talaga and you can download with pub, pdf, txt, doc, and more file format with free account. in this vital and incisive work, bestselling and award-winning author tanya talaga explores the alarming rise of youth suicide in indigenous communities in canada and beyond. from northern ontario to nunavut, norway, brazil, australia, and the united states, the indigenous experience in colonized nations is startlingly similar and deeply disturbing. it is an experience marked by the violent separation of peoples from the land, the separation of families, and the separation of individuals from traditional ways of life — all of which has culminated in a spiritual separation that has had an enduring impact on generations of indigenous children. as a result of this colonial legacy, too many communities today lack access to the basic determinants of health — income, employment, education, a safe environment, health services — leading to a mental health and youth suicide crisis on a global scale. but, talaga reminds us, first peoples also share a history of resistance, resilience, and civil rights activism, from the occupation of alcatraz led by the indians of all tribes, to the northern ontario stirland lake quiet riot, to the standing rock protests against the dakota access pipeline, which united indigenous nations from across turtle island in solidarity. based on her atkinson fellowship in public policy series, all our relations is a powerful call for action, justice, and a better, more equitable world for all indigenous peoples.
