Description : Read Now Contemporary Issues In Africa S Development by Richard A. Olaniyan and you can download with pub, pdf, txt, doc, and more file format with free account. this volume reports on the state of crisis in africa in the early twenty-first century. africa, on the eve of the ‘independence revolution’, was the continent of hope and high expectations. by the third decade of independence, optimism had been replaced by dismality. african states had been beset by ethno-political squabbles, military rule, civil wars, islamic and insurgent movements, extreme poverty and disease. with the ascent of redemocratization in the 1990s and of ‘new’ pan-africanism derived from the formation of the african union, africa appeared set to claim its vaunted destiny. this book asks, with hindsight to the first decade of the twenty-first century: how real was the renaissance in african life? if the dismal african condition is a phase in the historical development of africa, this volume does not see any golden age in the past to which africa aspires to return. there is clearly a continuation and persistence of crisis, with an absence of good governance, personalisation of state power, widespread disease, and policy failure in education, economy and infrastructural development. although endowed with abundant human and natural resources, africa remains the least developed and most indebted continent. whither then the african renaissance? the methodologies that underpin the contributions in this book are as diverse as the specialisations of the contributors. the collection questions ideologically protected assumptions and presumptions, presenting africa as it is, because it is only by knowing where africa truly stands that a proper direction can be charted for it.

Description : Read Now Grid Locked African Economic Sovereignty by Warikandwa, Tapiwa Victor and you can download with pub, pdf, txt, doc, and more file format with free account. the emergent so-called “fourth industrial revolution” is regarded by some as a panacea for bringing about development to africans. this book dismisses this flawed reasoning. surfacing how “investors” are actually looting and plundering africa; how the industrial internet of things, the gig economies, digital economies and cryptocurrencies breach african political and economic sovereignty, the book pioneers what can be called anticipatory economics – which anticipate the future of economies. it is argued that the future of africans does not necessarily require degrowth, postgrowth, postdevelopment, postcapitalism or sharing/solidarity economies: it requires attention to age-old questions about african ownership and control of their resources. investors have to invest in ensuring that africans own and control their resources. further, it is pointed out that the historical imperial structural creation of forced labour is increasingly morphing into what we call the structural creation of forced leisure which is no less lethal for africans. because both the structural creation of forced labour and the structural creation of forced leisure are undergirded by transnational neo-imperial plunder, theft, robbery, looting and dispossession of africans, this book goes beyond the simplistic arguments that euro-america developed due to the industrial revolutions.

Description : Read Now Africa S Development Impasse by Doctor Stefan Andreasson and you can download with pub, pdf, txt, doc, and more file format with free account. orthodox strategies for socio-economic development have failed spectacularly in southern africa. neither the developmental state nor neoliberal reform seems able to provide a solution to africa's problems. in africa's development impasse, stefan andreasson analyses this failure and explores the potential for post-development alternatives. examining the post-independence trajectories of botswana, zimbabwe and south africa, the book shows three different examples of this failure to overcome a debilitating colonial legacy. andreasson then argues that it is now time to resuscitate post-development theory's challenge to conventional development. in doing this, he claims, we face the enormous challenge of translating post-development into actual politics for a socially and politically sustainable future and using it as a dialogue about what the aims and aspirations of post-colonial societies might become. this important fusion of theory with empirical case studies will be essential reading for students of development politics and africa.

Description : Read Now Political Parties In South Africa by Thuynsma, Heather and you can download with pub, pdf, txt, doc, and more file format with free account. political parties and the party system that underpins south africa’s democracy have the potential to build a cohesive and prosperous nation. but in the past few years the anc’s dominance has strained the system and tested it and its institutions’ fortitude. there are deeper issues of accountability that often spurn the constitution and there is also a clear need to foster meaningful public participation and transparency. this volume offers a different and detailed assessment of the health of south africa’s political system. this study intends to unravel the condition of the party system in south africa and culminates in the question: do south african parties promote or hinder democracy in the country? the areas of the party system that are known to require continued work are the weakness of democratic structures within parties, the perceived lack of responsibility of elected parliamentarians towards voters, non-transparent private partner financing structures and a lack of attractiveness of party-political commitment, especially for women. experts in the respective fields address all of these areas in this book.
