Description : Read Now Contemporary Issues In Africa S Development by Richard A. Olaniyan, Ehimika A. Ifidon and you can download with pub, pdf, txt, doc, and more file format with free account. this volume reports on the state of crisis in africa in the early twenty-first century. africa, on the eve of the ‘independence revolution’, was the continent of hope and high expectations. by the third decade of independence, optimism had been replaced by dismality. african states had been beset by ethno-political squabbles, military rule, civil wars, islamic and insurgent movements, extreme poverty and disease. with the ascent of redemocratization in the 1990s and of ‘new’ pan-africanism derived from the formation of the african union, africa appeared set to claim its vaunted destiny. this book asks, with hindsight to the first decade of the twenty-first century: how real was the renaissance in african life? if the dismal african condition is a phase in the historical development of africa, this volume does not see any golden age in the past to which africa aspires to return. there is clearly a continuation and persistence of crisis, with an absence of good governance, personalisation of state power, widespread disease, and policy failure in education, economy and infrastructural development. although endowed with abundant human and natural resources, africa remains the least developed and most indebted continent. whither then the african renaissance? the methodologies that underpin the contributions in this book are as diverse as the specialisations of the contributors. the collection questions ideologically protected assumptions and presumptions, presenting africa as it is, because it is only by knowing where africa truly stands that a proper direction can be charted for it.

Description : Read Now The Gaullist Attack On Canada 1967 1997 by J. F. Bosher and you can download with pub, pdf, txt, doc, and more file format with free account. what lay behind charles de gaulle's "vive le québec libre!" speech in montreal on 24 july 1967, philippe rossillon's activities in new brunswick, belgium, and africa, and the sinking of greenpeace's rainbow warrior in new zealand in 1985? j.f. bosher argues that the motivation behind all these incidents was a policy of underhanded imperial ambition on the part of france. in the gaullist attack on canada, he contends that french nationalists have been at work behind the screen of harmless fraternising of international francophonie in order to stimulate french revolutionary nationalism in quebec and elsewhere, and that the gaullist ideology behind these attempts rests on a set of myths about past events, age-old resentment of the english-speaking nations, and a deep-rooted belief in the superiority of france, its language, and its culture. the gaullist attack on canada reveals a phase of french imperialism that poses a threat to canadian confederation. since the 1960s, bosher argues, de gaulle and his followers have conspired to stimulate quebec separatism as part of their larger goal to revive france's role as a great power. he bases his case on the evidence of france's actions in other former french colonies, especially in africa, as well as the writings of such leading gaullist conspirators as bernard dorin, pierre–claude mallen, pierre de menthon, and philippe rossillon, who have boasted about their efforts to win quebec away from canada for france. bosher criticises the canadian government for its failure to respond to, or even to recognise, the gaullist threat. the under–secretary of state for external affairs in the 1960s, marcel cadieux, wanted to take vigorous steps against the gaullist mafia but was overruled by his political superiors. bosher argues that, even now, by standing up to french aggression the government might weaken the separatist movement in quebec, or at least turn the tide of political support for it.

Description : Read Now Colonial Ambivalence Cultural Authenticity And The Limitations Of Mimicry In French Ruled West Africa 1914 1956 by James Eskridge Genova and you can download with pub, pdf, txt, doc, and more file format with free account. "colonial ambivalence, cultural authenticity, and the limitations of mimicry in french-ruled west africa, 1914-1956" offers an innovative and provocative reassessment of the history and legacies of french colonial rule in west africa between the first world war and the late 1950s. making critical use of postcolonial and cultural theory, james e. genova argues that the colonizers and the colonized were locked in a struggle for authority increasingly structured by competing notions of what it meant to be french or african. this book breaks new ground by demonstrating the centrality of the cultural question in the imperial encounters between france and west africa. it maps the emergence of the french-educated elite as a social class in french west africa as a window into the complex relationship between agency and structural context in the making of history. a disjunction developed between decolonization and liberation in the colonial liaison of france and west africa that left colonizers and colonized trapped in a neocolonial cultural framework actualizing frantz fanon's deepest fears about the postcolony.

Description : Read Now The International Relations Of Sub Saharan Africa by Ian Taylor and you can download with pub, pdf, txt, doc, and more file format with free account. "despite the myth of marginality and irrelevance, africa has always been inextricably linked to the global stage and has long played an important - often-vital - role in international politics. critically analyzing the modalities of governance in large parts of africa, the book provides a comprehensive overview of the continent's international relations, arguing that contra to the notion that africa is a passive bystander to global processes, its elites have generally proven themselves excellent arch-manipulators of the international system. chapters on american, british, french, chinese, indian and european interactions with the continent engage with chapters on the role of the world bank and imf and the "new" scramble for africa's oil to explain such processes." --book jacket.
