Description : Read Now The Gaullist Attack On Canada 1967 1997 by J. F. Bosher and you can download with pub, pdf, txt, doc, and more file format with free account. what lay behind charles de gaulle's "vive le québec libre!" speech in montreal on 24 july 1967, philippe rossillon's activities in new brunswick, belgium, and africa, and the sinking of greenpeace's rainbow warrior in new zealand in 1985? j.f. bosher argues that the motivation behind all these incidents was a policy of underhanded imperial ambition on the part of france. in the gaullist attack on canada, he contends that french nationalists have been at work behind the screen of harmless fraternising of international francophonie in order to stimulate french revolutionary nationalism in quebec and elsewhere, and that the gaullist ideology behind these attempts rests on a set of myths about past events, age-old resentment of the english-speaking nations, and a deep-rooted belief in the superiority of france, its language, and its culture. the gaullist attack on canada reveals a phase of french imperialism that poses a threat to canadian confederation. since the 1960s, bosher argues, de gaulle and his followers have conspired to stimulate quebec separatism as part of their larger goal to revive france's role as a great power. he bases his case on the evidence of france's actions in other former french colonies, especially in africa, as well as the writings of such leading gaullist conspirators as bernard dorin, pierre–claude mallen, pierre de menthon, and philippe rossillon, who have boasted about their efforts to win quebec away from canada for france. bosher criticises the canadian government for its failure to respond to, or even to recognise, the gaullist threat. the under–secretary of state for external affairs in the 1960s, marcel cadieux, wanted to take vigorous steps against the gaullist mafia but was overruled by his political superiors. bosher argues that, even now, by standing up to french aggression the government might weaken the separatist movement in quebec, or at least turn the tide of political support for it.

Description : Read Now The French Revolution by J. F. Bosher and you can download with pub, pdf, txt, doc, and more file format with free account. bosher situates the revolutionary struggle not in an atmosphere of sharp class alignment, but instead with socially mixed and transient groupings. he goes deeply into the pre-revolutionary period, examining the stresses in the social and political order of the ancien regime, as well as the ideas of the wealthy that circulated in the salons and permeated the journals and leaflets read by the populace. central to the account is professor bosher's argument, novel and fully documented, that behind the tumult was a generation of revolutionaries whose revolution was not premeditated and a series of events that were anything but inevitable even once the powder keg was ignited.

Description : Read Now Behind The Embassy Door by James J. Blanchard and you can download with pub, pdf, txt, doc, and more file format with free account. from the moment he became u.s. ambassador to canada in 1993, james j. blanchard was determined to make a difference. he succeeded - to hte benefit of both countries. "behind the embassy door is an insider's view of politics and diplomacy at one of the most crucial periods in the history of u.s.-canada relations. the north american free trade agreement, negotiated against a background of fierce controversy, was agreed to but not yet ratified and a newly elected liberal government had promised to renegotiate the deal. at the same time, the separatist government in quebec was pushing the country to the brink of dissolution with a referendum on sovereignty. this book gives fascinating insight into the role of the u.s. ambassador at a time when seemingly minor remarks and gestures could prove decisive. this is an extraordinary account of how international relations are conducted at the highest level. it is also a candid account of the everyday life of an ambassador abroad. blanchard takes us behind the scenes with a number of canadian and american politicians and public figures, from prime minister jean chretien to president clinton, and many of their senior cabinet members and advisers. blanchard describes the coast-to-coast trip across canada that he undertook shortly after his arrival. and he tells about visits to ottawa by the president, vice-president gore, madeleine albright, and many others. he recalls how the president's mother charmed a thousand women and how hillary clinton skated on the famed rideau canal. this book offers an unprecedented and frequently surprising look at the intimate everyday workings of a relationship that is unique among nations.
