Lopez and you can download with pub, pdf, txt, doc, and more file format with free account. strategic health planning, the cornerstone of initiatives designed to achieve health improvement goals around the world, requires an understanding of the comparative burden of diseases and injuries, their corresponding risk factors and the likely effects of invervention options. the global burden of disease framework, originally published in 1990, has been widely adopted as the preferred method for health accounting and has become the standard to guide the setting of health research priorities. this publication sets out an updated assessment of the situation, with an analysis of trends observed since 1990 and a chapter on the sensitivity of gbd estimates to various sources of uncertainty in methods and data.

Description : Read Now Preventing Disease Through Healthy Environments by Annette Prüss-Üstün and you can download with pub, pdf, txt, doc, and more file format with free account. "the main message emerging from this new comprehensive global assessment is that premature death and disease can be prevented through healthier environments--and to a significant degree. analysing the latest data on the environment-disease nexus and the devastating impact of environmental hazards and risks on global health, backed up by expert opinion, this report covers more than 130 diseases and injuries. the analysis shows that 23% of global deaths (and 26% of deaths among children under five) are due to modifiable environmental factors--and therefore can be prevented. stroke, ischaemic heart disease, diarrhoea and cancers head the list. people in low-income countries bear the greatest disease burden, with the exception of noncommunicable diseases. the report's unequivocal evidence should add impetus to coordinating global efforts to promote healthy environments--often through well-established, cost-effective interventions. this analysis will inform those who want to better understand the transformational spirit of the sustainable development goals agreed by heads of state in september 2015. the results of the analysis underscore the pressing importance of stronger intersectoral action to create healthier environments that will contribute to sustainably improving the lives of millions around the world."--page 4 of cover.

Description : Read Now An Integrative Metaregression Framework For Descriptive Epidemiology by Abraham D. Flaxman and you can download with pub, pdf, txt, doc, and more file format with free account. to provide the tools and knowledge needed in efforts to improve the health of the world's populations, researchers collaborated on the global burden of diseases, injuries, and risk factors study 2010. the study produced comprehensive estimates of over 200 diseases and health risk factors in 187 countries over two decades, results that will be used by governments and non-governmental agencies to inform priorities for global health research, policies, and funding. integrated meta-regression framework for descriptive epidemiology is the first book-length treatment of model-based meta-analytic methods for descriptive epidemiology used in the global burden of disease study 2010. in addition to collecting the prior work on compartmental modeling of disease, this book significantly extends the model, by formally connecting the system dynamics model of disease progression to a statistical model of epidemiological rates and demonstrates how the two models were combined to allow researchers to integrate relevant data. practical applications of the model to meta-analysis of more than a dozen different diseases complement the theoretical foundations of the integrative systems modeling of disease in populations. the book concludes with a detailed description of the future directions for research in model-based meta-analysis of descriptive epidemiological data. abraham flaxman is assistant professor of global health in the institute for health metrics and evaluation at the university of washington.

Description : Read Now Global Status Report On Noncommunicable Diseases 2010 by World Health Organization and you can download with pub, pdf, txt, doc, and more file format with free account. "this report sets out the statistics, evidence and experiences needed to launch a more forceful response to the growing threat posed by noncommunicable diseases. while advice and recommendations are universally relevant, the report gives particular attention to conditions in low- and middle-income countries, which now bear nearly 80% of the burden from diseases like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer and chronic respiratory diseases. the health consequences of the worldwide epidemic of obesity are also addressed. the report takes an analytical approach, using global, regional and country-specific data to document the magnitude of the problem, project future trends, and assess the factors contributing to these trends. as noted, the epidemic of these diseases is being driven by forces now touching every region of the world: demographic aging, rapid unplanned urbanization, and the globalization of unhealthy lifestyles"--publisher's description.
