Description : Read Now Light On Relationships by Hart Defouw and you can download with pub, pdf, txt, doc, and more file format with free account. the sages of ancient india developed the astrological practice of jyotisha as a karma-measuring apparatus to indicate where your karmas will permit ideals to be shared between you and those with whom you relate. jyotisha can help restructure relationship dynamics by providing perspectives on when and how your relationships and their difficulties are likely to arise and dissipate. light on relationships is currently the only book that makes relationship analysis accessible to the modern student of indian astrology. if you want to learn how to use this system for chart comparison, this book gives you the complete details. the authors cover the techniques of synastry and explore all the facets of what makes a relationship work--or not--including personal karma and goals, family influences, the ayurvedic constitution or dosha of each individual, and how these elements are revealed. in an entertaining and informative way, the authors explain how the individual chart will reveal your inborn ability to relate. they explain the traditional ten porutthams, which evaluate a couple's sukha (external and internal happiness), and explore superstitious concepts, such as vishna kanya (literally, "poison maiden"), or kuja dosha ("the blemish of mars"). included are details on determining the most auspicious times for a wedding. this approach to synastry has been developed over years of experimentation. the authors blend the principles of synastry with other techniques culled from jyotisha's classical canon. some of the less conventional techniques presented come from ancient oral traditions never before incorporated into the classical works. other methods come from the authors' mentors; and some have been developed from processes validated over many years of their experience. the authors build on some of the best principles of the astrological traditions of both west and east, hoping to bring the two camps closer together.

Description : Read Now The Light Of Asia by Edwin Arnold and you can download with pub, pdf, txt, doc, and more file format with free account. at its initial publication in 1879, this lovely retelling of the life of prince gautama buddha, prior to his attaining enlightenment to become the buddha, was a huge hit, and a huge scandal. eastern scholars of buddhism claimed it misrepresented the doctrine. western christians were outraged by the likening of buddha to jesus. its reputation was cemented. english poet sir edwin arnold (1832-1904), whose verse in the light of asia was praised at the time and continues to inspire and move readers today, was fascinated by the east, and this work was one of the first to introduce european readers to buddhism. as an artifact of the opening of western minds to eastern influences, this remains a fascinating read, as well as an enlightening one.

Description : Read Now Future Of India by Bimal Jalan and you can download with pub, pdf, txt, doc, and more file format with free account. as recently as a decade ago, the prospect of india becoming a developed country any time soon seemed a distant possibility. since then, however, there has been a sea change in our own and the world’s perception about our future. what explains this rising tide of optimism? and how far is it justified? in the future of india, bimal jalan, former governor of the reserve bank of india, takes up the formidable challenge of examining the nuts and bolts of this proposition. in his thought-provoking, clear-sighted analysis, he argues that it is the interface between politics, economics and governance, and their combined effect on the functioning of our democracy, which will largely determine india’s future. an understanding of this interface will help explain the swings in india’s political and economic fortunes over the past decades, and why the promise has been belied. in the light of experience, argues jalan, there is no certainty that the present euphoria will last unless there is the political will to seize the new opportunities that are available. he proceeds to suggest steps that can be taken to smoothen our path to progress: ways to strengthen parliament and the judiciary; a series of political reforms that would, among other things, see greater accountability among ministers; and effective ways to curb corruption and enhance fiscal viability. in all these there is an emphasis on the pragmatic, born of jalan’s experience as an administrator, economist and member of parliament. contemporary and topical, the future of india: politics, economics and governance, perhaps more than any other book on the subject, shows just how a future close enough to be seen need not forever remain elusive to the grasp.

Description : Read Now The Light Of Knowledge by Francis Cody and you can download with pub, pdf, txt, doc, and more file format with free account. since the early 1990s hundreds of thousands of tamil villagers in southern india have participated in literacy lessons, science demonstrations, and other events designed to transform them into active citizens with access to state power. these efforts to spread enlightenment among the oppressed are part of a movement known as the arivoli iyakkam (the enlightenment movement), considered to be among the most successful mass literacy movements in recent history. in the light of knowledge, francis cody’s ethnography of the arivoli iyakkam highlights the paradoxes inherent in such movements that seek to emancipate people through literacy when literacy is a power-laden social practice in its own right. the light of knowledge is set primarily in the rural district of pudukkottai in tamil nadu, and it is about activism among laboring women from marginalized castes who have been particularly active as learners and volunteers in the movement. in their endeavors to remake the tamil countryside through literacy activism, workers in the movement found that their own understanding of the politics of writing and enlightenment was often transformed as they encountered vastly different notions of language and imaginations of social order. indeed, while activists of the movement successfully mobilized large numbers of rural women, they did so through logics that often pushed against the very enlightenment rationality they hoped to foster. offering a rare behind-the-scenes look at an increasingly important area of social and political activism, the light of knowledge brings tools of linguistic anthropology to engage with critical social theories of the postcolonial state.
