Description : Read Now Tudor Translation In Theory And Practice by Massimiliano Morini and you can download with pub, pdf, txt, doc, and more file format with free account. filling a gap in the study of early modern literature, massimiliano morini here exhaustively examines the aims, strategies, practice and theoretical ideas of the sixteenth-century translator. morini analyzes early modern english translations of works by french and italian essayists and poets, including montaigne, castiglione, ariosto and tasso, and of works by classical writers such as virgil and petrarch. in the process, he demonstrates how connected translation is with other cultural and literary issues: women as writers, literary relations between italy and england, the nature of the author, and changes in the english language. since english tudor writers, unlike their italian contemporaries, did not write theoretical treatises, the author works empirically to extrapolate the theory that informs the practice of tudor translation - he deduces several cogent theoretical principles from the metaphors and figures of speech used by translators to describe translation. employing a good blend of theory and practice, the author presents the tudor period as a crucial transitional moment in the history of translation, from the medieval tradition (which in secular literature often entailed radical departure from the original) to the more subtle modern tradition (which prizes the invisibility of the translator and fluency of the translated text). morini points out that this is also a period during which ideas about language and about the position of england on the political and cultural map of europe undergo dramatic change, and he convincingly argues that the practice of translation changes as new humanistic methods are adapted to the needs of a country that is expanding its empire.

"howl" is a poem written by allen ginsberg in 1955, published as part of his 1956 collection of poetry titled "howl and other poems." ginsberg began work on "howl" as early as 1954. "howl" is considered to be one of the great works of american literature. it came to be associated with the group of writers known as the beat generation, which included jack kerouac and william s. burroughs. there is no foundation to the myth that "howl" was written as a performance piece and later published by poet lawrence ferlinghetti of city lights books. this myth was perpetuated by ferlinghetti as part of the defense's case during the poem's obscenity trial, as detailed below. upon the poem's release, ferlinghetti and the bookstore's manager, shigeyoshi murao, were charged with disseminating obscene literature, and both were arrested. on october 3, 1957, judge clayton w. horn ruled that the poem was not obscene. poems include: howl -- footnote to howl -- a supermarket in california -- transcription of organ music -- sunflower sutra -- america -- in the baggage room at greyhound; earlier poems: an asphodel -- song -- wild orphan -- in back of the real.

Description : Read Now Publishing Translations In Fascist Italy by Christopher Rundle and you can download with pub, pdf, txt, doc, and more file format with free account. in the 1930s translation became a key issue in the cultural politics of the fascist regime due to the fact that italy was publishing more translations than any other country in the world. making use of extensive archival research, the author of this new study examines this 'invasion of translations' through a detailed statistical analysis of the translation market. the book shows how translations appeared to challenge official claims about the birth of a fascist culture and cast italy in a receptive role that did not tally with fascist notions of a dominant culture extending its influence abroad. the author shows further that the commercial impact of this invasion provoked a sustained reaction against translated popular literature on the part of those writers and intellectuals who felt threatened by its success. he examines the aggressive campaign that was conducted against the italian publishers federation by the authors and writers union (led by the futurist poet f. t. marinetti), accusing them of favouring their private profit over the national interest. finally, the author traces the evolution of fascist censorship, showing how the regime developed a gradually more repressive policy towards translations as notions of cultural purity began to influence the perception of imported literature.

Description : Read Now Networking by Tatiana Bazzichelli and you can download with pub, pdf, txt, doc, and more file format with free account. networking means to create nets of relations, where the publisher and the reader, the artist and the audience, act on the same level. the book is a first tentative reconstruction of the history of artistic networking in italy, through an analysis of media and art projects which during the past twenty years have given way to a creative, shared and aware use of technologies, from video to computers, contributing to the creation of italian hacker communities. the italian network proposes a form of critical information, disseminated through independent and collective projects where the idea of freedom of expression is a central theme. in italy, thanks to the alternative use of internet, during the past twenty years a vast national network of people who share political, cultural and artistic views has been formed. the book describes the evolution of the italian hacktivism and net culture from the 1980s till today. it builds a reflection on the new role of the artist and author who becomes a networker, operating in collective nets, reconnecting to neoavant-garde practices of the 1960s (first and foremost fluxus), but also mail art, neoism and luther blissett. a path which began in bbses, alternative web platforms spread in italy through the 1980s even before the internet even existed, and then moved on to hackmeetings, to telestreet and networking art by different artists such as 0100101110101101.org, [epidemic], jaromil, giacomo verde, giovanotti mondani meccanici, correnti magnetiche, candida tv, tommaso tozzi, federico bucalossi, massimo contrasto, mariano equizzi, pigreca, molleindustria, guerriglia marketing, sexyshock, phag off and many others.

Description : Read Now The Divine Mimesis by Pier Paolo Pasolini and you can download with pub, pdf, txt, doc, and more file format with free account. written between 1963 and 1967, the divine mimesis, pasolini's imitation of the early cantos of the inferno, offers a searing critique of italian society and the intelligentsia of the 1960s. it is also a self-critique by the author of the ashes of gramsci (1957) who saw the civic world evoked by that book fading absolutely from view. by the mid-1960s, pasolini theorized, the italian language had sacrificed its connotative expressiveness for the sake of a denuded technological language of pure communication. in this context, he projects a 'rewrite' of dante's commedia in which two historical embodiments of pasolini himself occupy the roles of the pilgrim and guide in their underworld journey. densely layered with poetic and philological allusions, and illuminated by a parallel text of photographs that juxtapose the world of the italian literati to the simple reality of rural italian life, this narrative was curtailed by pasolini several years before he sent it to his publisher, a few months prior to his murder in 1975. yet, many of pasolini's projects took the provisional form of "notes toward..." an eventual work, such as sopralluoghi in palestina (location scouting in palestine), appunti per una oresteiade africana (notes for an african oresteia), and appunti per un film sull'india (notes for a film on india). the divine mimesis has a kinship to these filmic works as pasolini himself ruled it 'complete' though still in a partial form. written at a turning point in his life when he was wrestling with his poetic 'demons, ' the true center of gravity of pasolini's dantean project is the potential of poetry to teach and probe, ethically and aesthetically, in reality. "i wanted to make something seething and magmatic," pasolini declared, "even if in prose." in this first english translation of pasolini's la divina mimesis, italianist thomas e. peterson offers historical, linguistic, and cultural analyses that aim to expand the discourse about an enigmatic author considered by many to be the greatest italian poet after montale. published by contra mundum press one year in advance of the 40th anniversary of pasolini's death. * in the history of twentieth-century poetry, there is no other poet besides pasolini who has more tenaciously interrogated his own 'i, ' more persistently contemplated it, admired it, examined it, analyzed it and dissected it in order then to show its suffering entrails to the world, as they beg for understanding, affection, and pity. - giorgio barberi squarotti *"
