Description : Read Now Precision Agriculture For Sustainability And Environmental Protection by Margaret Oliver and you can download with pub, pdf, txt, doc, and more file format with free account. precision agriculture (pa) involves the application of technologies and agronomic principles to manage spatial and temporal variation associated with all aspects of agricultural production in order to improve crop performance and environmental quality. the focus of this book is to introduce a non-specialist audience to the the role of pa in food security, environmental protection, and sustainable use of natural resources, as well as its economic benefits. the technologies covered include yield monitors and remote sensing, and the key agronomic principles addressed are the optimal delivery of fertilizers, water and pesticides to crops only when and where these are required. as a result, it is shown that both food production and resource efficiency can be maximized, without waste or damage to the environment, such as can occur from excessive fertilizer or pesticide applications. the authors of necessity describe some technicalities about pa, but the overall aim is to introduce readers who are unfamiliar with pa to this very broad subject and to demonstrate the potential impact of pa on the environment and economy. the book shows how farmers can place sustainability of the environment at the centre of their operations and that this is improved with the application of pa. the range of topics described includes sampling and mapping, weed and pest control, proximal and remote sensing, spatio-temporal analysis for improving management, management zones and water management. these are illustrated with case studies on sampling and mapping, biofuels from sugar cane and maize, paddy rice cultivation, and cotton production. chapter 3 of this book is freely available as a downloadable open access pdf at http://www.tandfebooks.com/page/openaccess it has been made available under a creative commons attribution-non commercial-no derivatives 3.0 license.

Description : Read Now Soil Quality Sustainable Agriculture And Environmental Security In Central And Eastern Europe by M.J. Wilson and you can download with pub, pdf, txt, doc, and more file format with free account. agriculture is a crucial component of the economies of many of the countries in transition from a centrally-planned to a market economy and the sector is by no means immune to the environmental and socioeconomic problems confronting the countries as a whole. the concept of sustainable development provides a convenient framework for the formulation of government environmental policy for such countries, especially those of them that aspire to join the eu and would thus be expected to meet eu environmental standards. for agriculture, this inevitably involves appropriate strategies for balancing crop and animal production while protecting the quality of the national soil and water resources. there is thus an urgent need to compile, exchange and evaluate current information on the quality of soils in these countries, and to assess the potential impact of new management practices on the soil and on the wider environment.

Description : Read Now A Thriving Agricultural Sector In A Changing Climate by De Pinto, Alessandro and you can download with pub, pdf, txt, doc, and more file format with free account. given its heavy reliance on rainfed agriculture and projected climatic and weather changes, ssa faces multidimensional challenges in ensuring food and nutrition security as well as preserving its ecosystems. in this regard, climate-smart agriculture (csa) can play an important role in addressing the interlinked challenges of food security and climate change. csa practices aim to achieve three closely related objectives: sustainably increase agricultural productivity, adapt to climate change, and mitigate greenhouse gas (ghg) emissions. the csa objectives directly contribute to achieving the 2014 malabo declaration goals, which include commitments to (1) end hunger in africa by 2025, (2) halve poverty by 2025 through inclusive agricultural growth and transformation, and (3) enhance the resilience of livelihoods and production systems to climate variability and other related risks. these linkages underscore the importance of including csa in country and regional plans to achieve overarching development objectives in africa, in particular food security and poverty reduction. the 2016 annual trends and outlook report (ator) examines the contribution of csa to meeting malabo declaration goals by taking stock of current knowledge on the effects of climate change, reviewing existing evidence of the effectiveness of various csa strategies, and discussing examples of csa-based practices and tools for developing evidence-based policies and programs.
