Description : Read Now The United States And Southeast Asian Regionalism by Sue Thompson and you can download with pub, pdf, txt, doc, and more file format with free account. the nixon or guam doctrine of 1969 stressed the importance of progress towards regional cooperation and asian collective security, indicating that asian countries themselves should take the initiative in creating programs in which the united states could participate. this book analyses the development of united states regional cooperation policy on southeast asia and its importance to long-term planning for the region that had been the general aim of successive american post-war administrations. the author demonstrates the link between economic regional cooperation and collective security in southeast asia, placing regionalism in an international context by examining the influence united states policy and various important events had on the development of southeast asian regionalism. through the analysis of primary material, including previously classified material, in the united states, the united kingdom, and australia and engagement with historiography of war and peace in southeast asia, the book puts forward the argument that southeast asian regional cooperation was influenced by both american and asian policy and its development reflected the economic and political transformation of the post-war southeast asian landscape. it also examines the developments in british and australian policy and how developments in southeast asia influenced and, in turn, were affected by the policies of the western powers. adding to the current discourse concerning the origins of southeast asian regionalism, this book will be of interest to academics in the field of southeast asian studies, united states political history, international relations and regionalism.

Godehardt and you can download with pub, pdf, txt, doc, and more file format with free account. china's commitments in central asia illustrate how regional foreign policy works and how long-standing principles of chinese foreign policy might be revised in the near future. china's rise has 'moved' asia, which is why it seems that what we have traditionally regarded as the geographic and political scope of asia might actually considerably change in the near future. nadine godehardt gives crucial insights into the chinese expert discourse on central asia - analyzing how chinese experts define central asia when they talk and write about policy issues related to china's immediate western neighbourhood. in this context, she gives an inside perspective on chinese voices whose meanings are rarely examined in chinese international relations studies.

Description : Read Now Regionalism Trade And Economic Development In The Asia Pacific Region by Muhammed Abu B. Siddique and you can download with pub, pdf, txt, doc, and more file format with free account. the editor of this book is to be congratulated for providing us with the works of a group of authors who combine proficient technical skills with elegant and lucid writing capabilities. . . this book would make excellent recommended reading for both undergraduate and graduate classes in international trade and finance. herb thompson, journal of contemporary asia this book is based on the premise that regional trade agreements (rtas) in the asia-pacific significantly impact on the material progress of the peoples of this region. these impacts in terms of the benefits and costs associated with rtas will vary greatly from country to country. the internationally acclaimed contributors examine the theoretical perspective of rtas in relation to exchange rates, the role and goals of the wto and agriculture. the tensions and trade frictions resulting from the formation of trade blocs and their conflicts with the roles and goals of the wto are also examined in the book. those economies that are considered the economic powerhouses of the region including china, japan, south korea, major asean countries and australia are discussed in depth. the findings of the book suggest that rtas are becoming increasingly popular in the asia-pacific region. however the associated costs and benefits depend on a number of complex factors including exchange rates, negotiation skills, the sectors included or excluded from the rta, and the level of economic development of the nations signing the rtas. the book will be particularly useful to academics, researchers, consultants, students, policy makers (including trade negotiators), and practitioners involved in trade and development in the asia-pacific region.

Description : Read Now Regionalism And Nationalism In The United States by Donald Davidson and you can download with pub, pdf, txt, doc, and more file format with free account. a quarter of a century before lyndon b. johnson popularized the slogan "the great society," donald davidson wrote his critique of leviathan, the omnipotent nation-state, in terms that only recently have come to be appreciated. "leviathan is the idea of the great society, organized under a single, complex, but strong and highly centralized national government, motivated ultimately by men's desire for economic welfare of a specific kind rather than their desire for personal liberty. " originally published as the attack on leviathan, this eloquent volume is an attack on state centralism and an affirmation of regional identity. davidson's work is a special sort of intellectual as well as social history. it reveals an extraordinary mastery of the literature on regionalism in the united states, with special emphasis on the work on rupert vance and howard odum in the social sciences. davidson looks at regionalism in arts, literature, and education. he favors agriculture over industrialization, and "the hinterland" over cities, examining along the way varying historical memories, the dilemma of southern liberals, and the choice of expedience or principles. his book is a forceful and commanding challenge to those who would push for central authority at the sacrifice of individual and regional identity. davidson concludes with a devastating critique of nationalism leading to a supra-nationalism. ultimately, the heterogeneity of human desires comes up against the uniformity of world systems and world states. davidson offers instead a broad world of intellectual history and commentary in which individualism allies itself with communities as a means for stemming the tide of collectivism and its base in a world state. for davidson, leviathan, the monstrous state, is a devourer, not a savior. as several peoples rise to strike down their own leviathans, this courageous book may be better understood now than it was in 1938. donald davidson was part of that movement in american letters known as the southern agrarians. he was a poet, critic, historian, and political analyst. he spent most of his life at vanderbilt university, and was himself born in central tennessee. he is best known as the author of the tall men (1927) and a collection of essays, still rebels, still yankees (1957).
